FAIR Thee Well: The Language and Tools for Sharing Neurophysiological Data
August 9–10, 2021

As neuroscience becomes an increasingly collaborative discipline, use of a common language to describe data is essential for collaboration, open science, reproducibility, and the access of scientific data in the broader community. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have also created new requirements for data sharing to accelerate scientific discovery and expedite translation of results into knowledge, products, and procedures to improve human health.

Our virtual symposium “FAIR Thee Well: The Language and Tools for Sharing Neurophysiological Data” discussed challenges and solutions for sharing data and provided an overview of the tools and languages that make data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR).

This symposium was organized by NYU Langone’s Neuroscience Institute and was made possible thanks to the following funding from the NIH: Oxytocin Modulation of Neural Circuit Function and Behavior (5U19NS107616-03), The Diverse Neuroscientists Doctoral Training Series (5R25NS107178-03), and Integrative Approaches to Explore Cellular Interactions in Neural Circuits Training Program (5 T32 NS086750-07).

News

Robert Froemke, PhD, was awarded the Landis Award for Outstanding Mentorship from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). In addition, he and members of his lab were featured in Smithsonian Magazine for their work on oxytocin.

György Buzsáki, MD, PhD, received the Society for Neuroscience Ralph W. Gerard Prize in Neuroscience for outstanding contributions to neuroscience throughout his career. To read more about Dr. Buzsáki’s work, read his latest feature published in the June 2022 issue of Scientific American.

Dayu Lin, PhD, identified a population of cells in the posterior amygdala as an integral component for male aggression and sexual behavior.
