This year, due to COVID-19 and per NYU Grossman School of Medicine-wide policy we will be offering a one-week virtual interactive didactics-based course for any interested medical students from other schools and universities.
Through this course, you will learn the fundamentals of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) from attendings and residents at NYU Langone and Rusk Rehabilitation in a series of hands-on interactive lectures, journal clubs and discussion groups.
Topics will range from a review of TBI, neuroanatomy, sports medicine, biomechanics, and prosthetics and orthotics, as well as reviews of critical articles and recent advances in rehabilitation medicine. You will attend resident didactics and journal club, as well as present on cases and topics in PM&R to your peers and to faculty and staff. You will also have a chance to meet faculty and staff in a range of settings from structured case based discussions, Q&A Sessions and a virtual happy-hour to help you decide if NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a good fit for you as you look for a residency.
Objectives of the Elective
To gain exposure to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation and patient management, to learn fundamentals of PM&R. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with faculty and staff to learn about our PM&R residency to help make informed application and match decisions.
Key Responsibilities of the student while on Elective
- Attend faculty and staff led virtual didactics for the duration of your elective
- Prepare and present on journal topics to each other and to NYU faculty and staff
- Interactively review and discuss a variety of patient cases and on topics in PM&R
- Daily afternoon didactic sessions
- Attendings of resident didactics
- Attend Resident Journal Club
