Description

The purpose of this elective is to introduce the student to clinical and academic aspects of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Each student will participate with members of the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery in patient evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Students will scrub on all surgical cases at Tisch and Bellevue Hospitals, make rounds on in-patients with attendings and fellows and attend clinics. The student will also participate in the division's academic endeavors (e.g., journal clubs, didactic lectures) and will present a discussion on an assigned topic at the conclusion of the rotation. If interested, students may also participate in on-going faculty research projects.

Objectives of the Elective

The student will understand the principles of the work-up and treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, learn pelvic anatomy, surgical technique, urogynecologic pelvic examinations and principles of urodynamics.

Key Responsibilities of the student while on Elective

1. Attend Bellevue Urogynecology surgical cases.
2. Attend Bellevue Urogynecology Clinics.
3. Attend Urogynecology surgical cases at Tisch.
4. Attend office hours for the Urogynecology Program.
5. Attend all conferences and didactic lectures described below.

Method of Evaluation

The student will be evaluated by the project preceptor, with the input of all division faculty members, fellow(s), and house staff. Home school evaluation forms are submitted to the course preceptor.
