Description

This elective is intended for students who plan a career in radiology or in one of the neurologic sciences. The students will receive instruction in some of the basic aspects of neurologic imaging and will participate in reading sessions and conferences associated with the neuroradiology section. The varied rotations are tailored for the individual students’ educational goals.

Objectives of the Elective

The objective of this elective is to offer the student an opportunity to observe how radiology contributes to patient care. It is hoped that the student will acquire an appreciation for the various imaging modalities and their application to the evaluation of neurological disease. The student should become familiar with anatomy of the brain and spinal cord and common disease processes as demonstrated on CT and MRI studies.

Key Responsibilities of the student while on Elective

  1. Attendance at conferences.
  2. Attendance of reading sessions.
  3. Observation of special procedures including lumbar pucture, myelography, angiography and cisternography.

Didactic Program

A series of medical student lectures are included which are presented by fellows and attendings.

Method of Evaluation

Students are evaluated for level of interest, motivation, acquisition of knowledge and attendance during the elective.
