Eva F. Chernoff, MD

I am an attending physician in child and adolescent psychiatry at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull and a faculty member affiliated with NYU Langone Health’s Department of Psychiatry. I completed my undergraduate studies in psychology and neuroscience at Pennsylvania State University, followed by a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. I trained in general psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital, where I served as chief resident, and completed fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at New York Presbyterian–Columbia/Cornell.

My clinical and academic work focuses on the mental health needs of children and adolescents, particularly those from underserved and high-risk communities. I provide comprehensive outpatient psychiatric care that integrates evidence-based psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, family engagement, and coordination with schools and community systems. My work is grounded in a public psychiatry framework, with an emphasis on health equity, culturally responsive care, and systems-level intervention.

My scholarly interests include trauma-related disorders and the impact of social determinants of health on psychiatric outcomes. I have contributed to research on postpartum PTSD, trauma resilience, and global public health, and have led educational initiatives aimed at improving trainee understanding of child mental health systems. My work also includes curriculum development and innovative teaching approaches, such as arts-based play therapy training for psychiatry fellows.

In addition to clinical and research activities, I have held multiple leadership roles focused on wellness, diversity, equity, inclusion, and recruitment within residency and fellowship training programs. I am committed to mentorship, medical education, and advancing equitable practices within psychiatry.
