Proprioception and Neuromuscular Control Following Ankle Instability Surgery

Purpose of Study

To evaluate proprioception, balance, and neuromuscular control during gait in individuals who prior to and following anatomic surgical reconstructions of the lateral ankle ligaments due to chronic lateral ankle instability.

Basic Inclusion Criteria (requirements for being included in study)

  • Age 18 years or older
  • Undergoing Modified Brostrom ankle ligament reconstruction for chronic ankle instability

Basic Exclusion Criteria (reasons for being excluded from study)

  • Inability to walk independently
  • Uncontrolled cardiovascular or neuromusculoskeletal disease
  • Lower extremity surgery less than 1 year ago

Study Visit Requirements

Three visits, one before, on six months after, and one 12 months after surgery. Each of these visits will take approximately 3 hours. Subjects will be reimbursed for participating.
