Housing for MD & MD/PhD Students
MD and MD/PhD students are eligible to live in Greenberg Hall and Vilcek Hall. Buildings are subject to change. Single students are guaranteed housing when first matriculating. Housing for couples and families may be available. Learn more about the housing policy for couples and families.
Smoking and pets are not permitted in student housing. Apartments can be furnished upon request, subject to availability, at no additional charge, with the exception of studios in Vilcek Hall. Furniture request options are included in the housing licenses (“leases”).
Located at 545 First Avenue, Greenberg Hall offers three-bedroom shared apartments and studios. Each apartment has window blinds, one bathroom, and a kitchen. Apartments are single-sex, with a few voluntary exceptions. Kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator, stove, oven, and sink. Microwave ovens are not provided. There are no storage facilities in the building. The building has a laundry room. There is 24-hour staffing in the lobby by NYU Langone security officers. Vilcek Hall, located at 334 East 26th Street, offers shared suites and studios. The building has a fitness center, laundry room, study room, and lounge. Each suite has two or four bedrooms, seasonal heat and air conditioning, window blinds, a common area, a bathroom, and kitchenette. Four-bedroom suites have two bathrooms.
There is 24-hour staffing in the lobby by NYU Langone security officers. NYU Langone identification must be available and presented to security officers upon request.
Suites are single-sex, with a few voluntary exceptions. Each apartment kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, stove, oven, and sink. Microwave ovens are not provided. The building has a laundry room, fitness center, lounge, and study room. There are no storage facilities in the building. Applying for Student Housing
Newly matriculated NYU School of Medicine students may apply for housing. Requests are reviewed according to the order in which the applications are received. Each student housing application requires a nonrefundable $100 application fee.
Housing registration and application instructions are provided through our housing portal following admission to NYU School of Medicine. You will need your student “N Number,” which will be provided via the admissions process. To begin, select “Register” at the top. After you complete the registration process, you will receive an email informing you that your registration is under review. Please allow a few days for review. After approval, you will receive an automated email providing you with temporary credentials so that you can log in and complete a housing application.
Each spring, eligible MD and MD/PhD students can apply for housing transfers for the following year through a housing lottery. Students residing off campus may participate if they wish to request to move into campus housing. Note that lottery moves are scheduled to take place during June or July, including weekends and holidays. The move schedule is announced in mid-May.
The housing lottery policy and procedures are updated each year. Students are notified via email when the process starts, and detailed policies and instructions are provided.
Charges, Billing, and Payments
The NYU Bursar’s Office bills MD students for housing costs for the fall and spring terms. If a student vacates or changes housing during a billing period, that information will be submitted to the bursar for adjusted billing. Please note that Housing Services staff cannot view a student’s bursar’s bill.
MD/PhD students are required to pay their monthly housing charges via payroll deduction from their stipend checks. Payment policies and instructions are provided when you receive your housing offer. For more information, please contact email@example.com.
Renewing Your License
The housing license is renewable as long as the student remains eligible. Students who are not graduating can, via the annual housing lottery, request to vacate their NYU Langone housing on June 30, after having given appropriate advance notice. Graduating students are required to vacate on May 31 of their graduation year.
Students may apply to sublet their housing spaces to an NYU affiliate who is eligible for an NYU or NYU Langone ID card. Sublets of 4 to 12 weeks per academic year are permitted for each student, with the permission of roommates, if applicable. Students can download the subletting policy and forms to begin the subletting process.
Guest passes allow limited access to NYU Langone residential buildings and apartments when a guest cannot at all times be accompanied by a host. Guest passes are not intended to provide access while the host is out of town. Guest passes do not provide guests with independent access to other medical center buildings or facilities, and guests are not provided with card swipe, lockout, mail, or key replacement services.
