Healthcare Delivery Science

Leora Horwitz, MD, MHS (c.), leads NYULMC's Center for Healthcare Innovation and Delivery Science (CHIDS) and the Department of Population Health's Division of Healthcare Delivery Science.

The Center for Healthcare Innovations and Delivery Science (CHIDS) is delighted to announce the funding of the first six CHIDS Delivery System Redesign grants, selected from 28 letters of intent. These projects run the gamut from pediatrics to geriatrics, involve patients at NYU Langone Medical Center and at NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers, and redesign both inpatient and outpatient systems. The following six proposals were selected for funding:

  • Healthy Families: Transforming Care for Obese Children led by Marisol Gonzales, MD, in the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers
  • Implementation of the Score for Trauma Triage in the Geriatric and Middle-Aged (STTGMA) Orthopaedic Trauma Patient: A Randomized Trial Utilizing Palliative Care Consultations to Improve Quality and Efficiency of Care led by Sanjit Konda, MD, in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center
  • The Colon Surgery Pathway:  A Truly Interdisciplinary, Integrated Care Plan for Colon Surgery Patients led by Frank Volpicelli, MD, and Jonathan Austrian, MD, from the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center
  • Innovations in Childhood Chronic Illness Care Delivery: An Integrated Behavioral Health System Redesign to Improve Effectiveness, Efficiency and Safety led by K. Ron-Li Liaw, MD, in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Langone Medical Center
  • Outpatient Antibiogram-Generated Education for Urinary Tract Infection Treatment: Reducing Antibiotic Pressure & Facilitating Judicious Antibiotic Use led by Kalvin Yu, MD, from the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center
  • Cardiology E-Consult Program led by George Fernaine, MD, from the Department of Medicine at NYU Lutheran

We are excited for these innovative projects begin next month and look forward to working with the project teams to improve care for patients across NYU Langone Medical Center.

We anticipate that the CHIDS Delivery System Redesign grants will be an annual funding opportunity open to clinicians working in all parts of the NYU Langone Medical Center community to realize their best ideas for delivery system transformation.
