Medical Ethics Job Opportunities

FACULTY POSITION:  Division of Medical Ethics, NYU School of Medicine

The Division of Medical Ethics in the Department of Population Health of NYU School of Medicine (, seeks to recruit an Assistant Professor level faculty member for a position, possibly tenure track, beginning as soon as September 1, 2018. Starting date is negotiable. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching one course per year or co-teaching with another instructor one course
  • Teaching in existing medical school courses and selectives
  • Mentoring one or more graduate students/postdoctoral fellows
  • Working with the Division Head on organizing meetings, conferences, and research projects
  • Pursuing a line of bioethical research and inquiry that leads to presentations at national meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Helping create and teach continuing education programs
  • Consultation on ethics issues for IRBs, clinical trial sponsors, investigators, patient groups, NGOs
  • Develop and seek funding for research studies in the candidate’s area of interest within bioethics

Core qualifications include: Excellent record of quality scholarship and teaching, including a demonstration of a strong scholarly career track. PhD, JD, or MD required. Post-Doctoral Position in the Division of Medical Ethics

The NYU Division of Medical Ethics seeks to recruit a post-doctoral fellow in medical ethics. The position can begin as early as September, 2018, but the starting date is negotiable. 

Core qualifications for the positions include: a record of quality scholarship. Applicants must have a PhD, JD, or MD. Successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate a strong scholarly career track in research ethics and one of the following additional areas: transplantation ethics or vaccine ethics and policy or end-of-life care issues or genetics.

The appointment will be for one year and may be renewed for a second year. The fellow will report directly to the Director of the Division of Medical Ethics.

Successful applicants will have significant protected time to pursue research. They will be expected to co-teach one graduate level class per calendar year, to participate in mentoring NYU students in projects and research, and to assist in teaching undergraduate medical students and house staff. They will be working on the Division’s program on Expanded Access and Compassionate Use 60% of their time. Stipend is $55-60,000. Health insurance and other benefits will be provided.
