Leadership, Education, and Development for Scientists (LEADS)

The Leadership, Education, and Development for Scientists (LEADS) program is sponsored by The Office of Science and Research (OSR), and the Organizational Development and Learning (ODL). LEADS is offered to a select group of assistant and associate professors whose career focus includes a significant research component, such as basic, clinical or public health research. This program is ideal for faculty early in their career who are growing their research programs, as well as midcareer faculty who are looking to expand their skills. To lead a research team successfully, assistant and associate professors need to balance several roles. Faculty must effectively manage a talented group of people, pilot successful collaborations within and outside of their research teams, navigate the complexities of their home institution and funding agency, and negotiate the inevitable conflicts that arise in a high stakes environment.


General Clinician Educator Faculty Development Program

This program, funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration, prepares general internists to be expert teachers and leaders by immersion in medical education theory and skills, curriculum design and implementation, remediation, and academic leadership. Trainees earn a Certificate in Advanced Medical Education from NYU.

Mentoring

Mentorship is an integral part of what we do at NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), and the school has resources available to all who are interested.

The School’s Office of Mentoring and Faculty Development has created resources including The Mentoring Toolbox and The Quick Guide to Mentoring.

The Department of Population Health has created an unofficial User’s Guide to Mentoring (pdf) to assist faculty in creating, preparing for, and convening their mentoring committees.

The Academic ePortfolio is a powerful web-based tool for faculty to collect a diverse set of items to showcase academic achievements, research, teaching, and service to the institution.

The CRC Mentorship Program is a voluntary mentoring program open to all clinical research coordination titles such as research nurses, research coordinators, research data associates, project and program assistants, and research managers. Those interested may fill out the Membership Questionnaire.

The Mentor Development Program is an integrated state-of-the-art program offered by the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) to help junior faculty improve their mentoring skills to the benefit of both their own research program and future success of their trainees.
