Industrial Hygienist; Assistant Director – Division of Epidemiology

Honghong Luo, an American Board of Industrial Hygiene Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), is the Industrial Hygienist and Assistant Director of Bellevue / NYU Occupational & Environmental Medicine Clinic (BNOEMC). She runs programs of respirator fit testing and workers’ health & safety training; administers pulmonary function tests for group screenings and individual patients; conducts environmental exposure assessments in workplaces and homes, and provides recommendations of hazard control and intervention. She also coordinates the development of occupational health worker protection protocols, service contracts with local businesses, and outreach to local worker groups and communities.

Her research interests include occupational exposure risk assessment methods and tools; effectiveness of preventive policy, hazard control intervention, training, and personal protective equipment use.

She received her MS in Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences from School of Public Health, Hunter College. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry and MS. in Geochemistry/Geology in China before receiving her PhD. in Chemical Oceanography from University of Alaska Fairbanks and postdoctoral training in environmental pollutant assessment from University of Toledo.
