Integrated Clinical Prediction Rules: Bringing Evidence to Diverse Primary Care Settings (iCPR2)

In this randomized controlled trial, we evaluated the feasibility and effectiveness of incorporating strep pharyngitis and pneumonia clinical prediction rules (CPRs) into electronic health records (EHRs) in diverse primary care practices. The main objective was to determine the impact of the integrated CPR (iCPR) on provider antibiotic prescribing and test ordering.

Smart Clinical Decision Support: Using Machine Learning to Suppress the Noise Generated by Clinical Decision Support

We built a machine learning model and corresponding data architecture to suppress inappropriate clinical decision support alerts in our EHR system, Epic. With the insertion of a machine learning system that could predict when physicians were likely to ignore EHR alerts and if that risk is high, automatically suppressing the alert, we aimed to mitigate the alert fatigue, which is a significant contributor to the larger burnout phenomenon.
