Job Search & Career Transition for Graduate Students & Postdoctoral Fellows
NYU’s Scientific Training Enhancement Program (NYU-STEP) at NYU Grossman School of Medicine helps you evaluate job opportunities and network with peers and potential employers. After you identify a career goal and explore skills useful in that field, you learn strategies to familiarize yourself with the job market.
Throughout the year, scientific professionals offer one-on-one informational interviews with program participants. These mock interviews give you a chance to practice interviewing, discuss your career goals, and ask about specific jobs.
You can also take advantage of the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development. There, you receive career counseling and help with résumé writing and interviewing. Twice a year, we invite outside speakers to host workshops on job searching, résumé writing, and negotiating.
Developing and maintaining a wide network of professional contacts can facilitate your career transition. Quarterly workshops in general networking give you the opportunity to meet with other NYU-STEP participants.
Each month, we offer panel discussions with speakers who have transitioned from academic research to new careers. Receptions afterward allow you to network with speakers, fellow participants, and other professionals in fields you may be interested in.
