The MedTech Venture Prototyping Fund is an intramural funding opportunity designed to encourage and support the advancement of medical device and digital health technologies owned by NYU that have the near-term potential for licensing and commercialization, through prototype development and evaluation.

Request for Proposals Application Deadline

The deadline for spring 2022 has passed. Details for the next request for proposals will be posted later this year.

Eligibility

Principal investigators with a primary appointment at NYU Grossman School of Medicine or NYU Long Island School of Medicine are eligible to apply.

Award Value

The target average budget proposal is $25,000 in direct costs, though applicants may request up to a maximum budget of $75,000, which may include costs for contracted third-party services. No indirect costs.

Application Process

Applicants should email a one-page preliminary proposal to Arundithi Ananthanarayanan, PhD, at arundithi.ananthanarayanan@nyulangone.org, with the subject line "MedTech Ventures Prototyping Fund Proposal."

A complete proposal comprises the following:

• outline of the technology
• commercial applications
• development stage
• proposed prototype development and evaluation
• budget requested

If the technology has not already been disclosed to Technology Opportunities and Ventures, please complete an invention disclosure form and email it to innovations@nyulangone.org.

Additional Details

Where possible, proposals with larger budgets should be presented in two or more phases that may be funded sequentially. Technology Opportunities and Ventures is involved in selecting and managing any outside contracts. The proposed funding level is evaluated relative to the size of the market opportunity and the ability of the funding to enable achievement of a significant inflection point in the advancement of the technology. Technology Opportunities and Ventures is willing to help develop and manage proposals with investigators who seek assistance.
