Online Versus Lab-Based Psychoacoustics
The purpose of the study is to investigate the feasibility of performing lab-based psychoacoustic measures through a web browser. Cochlear implant patients are traditionally evaluated in the research lab using strictly controlled environments, such as sound proof booths and calibrated speakers. While these conditions allow for high levels of experimental control, they are not always feasible for patients who cannot travel to the lab. In this study, we will use an ABA design to determine the accuracy and ease-of-use of web-browser based psychoacoustic assessments. Patients will perform the experiments at home using written instructions, at the lab under experimenter supervision, and then again at home. We hypothesize that home-based assessments may show more variability, but will be highly correlated to lab-based assessments. The results of this study may enable us to reach more subjects and increase validity of the assessments.
Optimal Dosing of IC-Green for Visualization of Rotator Cuff Vascularity using Advanced Imaging Modality Arthroscopy: A Prospective Randomized Trial
Rotator cuff re-tear is a common delayed complication of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. This process of re-tear is multifactorial and there has not been any readily identifiable perioperative measure that is predictive of subsequent rotator cuff failure. There have been no human studies looking at intraoperative assessment of rotator cuff vascularity, nor the predictive value that vascularity may have for rotator cuff re-tear. Indocyanine Green (ICG) has been safely used in patients for visualization purposes and has real potential for identifying vascularity in arthroscopic surgical patients. The aim of this study is to establish a standard dosing protocol for ICG in the arthroscopic visualization of rotator cuff vascularity.
