Michael Barfield, M.D.

Dr. Michael Barfield joined the NYU traditional vascular surgery fellowship in 2016. He was born and raised in southeast Georgia where he excelled academically and on the golf course, winning two state championships during high school. He graduated magne cum laude with honors from the University of Georgia where he also conducted research in organometallic and superconductor chemistry. Dr. Barfield also found a passion for the arts and dance while in Athens, doing charitable work and professional instruction in ballroom dance. He then moved to Durham, NC where he attended Duke University School of Medicine and continued into the general surgery residency program, a surgical research fellowship, and the surgical critical care fellowship. Dr. Barfield also chaired the GME Patient Safety & Quality Council for three years, the Resident Council for all house staff at Duke, and was the voting house staff member of the Executive Committee on Medical Services. In his time away from the hospital, Dr. Barfield and his wife enjoy traveling, spend time doing medical mission work, and work with orphan care and prevention around the world.
