How do I apply?

Applications are accepted only through the ERAS system. The selection process is done through the American Urological Association match system.

What is the deadline for application?

Students should plan to submit their applications by September 15th before their PGY1 year.

How many students are accepted into the program each year?

Each year, four residents are selected to join the Urology Residency Program at NYU.

What are the minimum required scores for USMLE step 1 & 2?

We do not have a minimum USMLE score requirement. Students should have passed Step 1 of their board exams and will complete Step 2 either before or after being accepted into a residency program. Nationwide, students who are accepted into urology programs typically score above the 90th percentile on board examinations.

How are applicants selected for an interview?

Each application is reviewed by the program director and a committee selected by the program director. Approximately 50 applicants are selected for an interview based on the following criteria: curriculum vitae (including research in medical school, presentations at local and national meetings, Alpha Omega Alpha membership and other extracurricular activities and interests), performance in medical school, letters of recommendation, performance on the USMLE examination and a personal statement.

Does the department sponsor visas for foreign medical students?

The department does not sponsor visas for foreign students, but students may contact the House Staff Office for more information on visa sponsorship.
