Department of Orthopedic Surgery Specialty Programs

Our specialty programs provide clinical care and support educational and research initiatives.

In addition to subspecialty divisions and research centers, NYU Langone’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery is also home to many specialized orthopedic centers and programs.

Bone Healing Center

The Bone Healing Center focuses on research and training concerning complex fractures and conditions that impede bone healing. Our team uses novel approaches for bone healing that include stem cell treatments, electronic bone stimulation, bone morphogenetic proteins, platelet-rich plasma therapy, ultrasound therapy, and other innovative therapies.

Center for Children

As part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, the Center for Children cares for children with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders. Our pediatric orthopedic surgeons perform research and train students in the latest techniques.

Diabetic Foot and Ankle Center

Clinicians at the Diabetic Foot and Ankle Center treat ankle and foot complications for people with diabetes. Along with a team that includes a broad range of specialists, our resident and medical student trainees provide interdisciplinary care for lower extremity conditions and also evaluate and treat conditions including nerve damage, foot ulcers, and poor circulation.

Hand Center

The Hand Center treats people of all ages who have chronic and acute upper extremity problems affecting the shoulder, thumb and fingers, wrist, elbow, and hand. Trainees learn to conduct hand and upper extremity evaluations and provide diagnostic and therapeutic care alongside our board-certified and fellowship-trained hand surgeons.

Harkness Center for Dance Injuries

The Harkness Center for Dance Injuries offers the highest-quality care—supported by education and research—to the dance community. As a leader in dance medicine education, we offer both online and live continuing medical education courses, and our research has produced globally accepted approaches to the recognition, treatment, and prevention of dance injuries.

Hip Center

Part of NYU Langone Orthopedic Center, the Hip Center offers an integrated team approach to the evaluation and treatment of developmental, traumatic, or degenerative hip disorders in patients of all ages. We specialize in minimally invasive anterior total hip replacement surgery, as well as conduct research and train students in the latest techniques for all hip conditions ranging from simple to complex.

Joint Preservation and Arthritis Center

Dedicated to advancing operative and nonoperative treatments of joint-related problems of the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow, and ankle, the Joint Preservation and Arthritis Center at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center aims to reduce symptoms, restore function, and delay the onset of degenerative arthritis. Research initiatives include the Joint Preservation Partnership, a program that brings together experts from across NYU Langone and beyond in studying, educating, treating, and customizing arthritis care for each affected patient.

Joint Replacement Center

The Joint Replacement Center at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center is one of the world’s largest providers of total joint replacements. Our clinicians perform knee, shoulder, and hip replacements and revisions, and supply a rich training environment for medical students, residents, and fellows.

Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center

The Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center provides educational, research, and clinical programs on musculoskeletal conditions. We offer MS and PhD programs in ergonomics and biomechanics, as well as an advanced certificate program in ergonomics.

Samuels Orthopedic Immediate Care Center

The Samuels Orthopedic Immediate Care Center is a walk-in orthopedic immediate care facility in New York City specifically focused on urgent orthopedic injuries. Trainees learn to administer expert care for acute orthopedic injuries in children and adults.

Spine Center

Surgeons in the Spine Center specialize in providing personalized care for spine disorders. We use state-of-the-art treatments, including artificial discs for the neck and back, that lessen surgical complications and postsurgical pain and disability. Our training and research efforts focus on refining treatment approaches for a broad range of spinal disorders.

Sports Medicine Center

The Sports Medicine Center is one of the leading education, research, and clinical programs in the Northeast for studying and treating sports-related injuries and recurring conditions. We help athletes of all ages progress to their full functional and sports-related goals.

Sports Performance Center

Exercise physiologists and other expert staff at the Sports Performance Center, located at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center, rely on the latest fitness training research and the most advanced testing equipment to help people of all fitness levels identify and achieve their sports training goals.
