• The goal is to promote patient comfort by:

  • Reducing fear, anxiety and pain
  • Producing amnesia and analgesia
  • Promoting cooperation and immobility (especially in children)

• The intention is to preserve airway reflexes, spontaneous breathing and arousability while reducing the level of consciousness
