Professor, Department of Medicine
I am Abraham (Ab) Brody, PhD, RN, FAAN, Associate Director of the HIGN, Mathy Mezey Professor of Geriatric Nursing, and Professor of Medicine. I am also the founder of Aliviado Health, an implementation arm of HIGN dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. My work focuses on the intersection of geriatrics, palliative care, quality, and equity. This includes developing interventions tailored for diverse and underserved older adults with serious illness and their care partners, which can be tested for effectiveness in large multi-site clinical trials and implemented in real-world settings. I also leverage emerging technologies, such as precision health and machine learning, to support the interdisciplinary healthcare workforce.
I hold several leadership roles, collaborating across disciplines to advance geriatrics and palliative care both nationally and internationally. As Pilot Core Lead of the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory, I oversee the pilot program, which reviews and awards funds to help investigators prepare for large-scale pragmatic clinical trials for people living with dementia and their care partners. Additionally, I have extensive experience as a mentor and enjoy training early-career faculty, PhD students, and post-doctoral scholars at NYU and beyond in the development and testing of geriatric and palliative interventions.
As a member of the faculty of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Care at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, I also provide care to patients on the geriatrics and palliative inpatient consult services.
