Accessible Housing for Students

In accordance with applicable federal, state, and local disability law, NYU Grossman School of Medicine maintains accessible housing for students with disabilities who are otherwise entitled to reside in NYU Langone housing. Requests for accessible housing are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to address the individual needs of the requesting student, and an interactive process is undertaken to understand the student’s needs.

Students with disabilities may request accessible housing by contacting the following departments:

Residential Housing: Physical Access Plan

NYU Langone Health is committed to ensuring that NYU Grossman School of Medicine students with disabilities have equal access to its housing programs and resources. As part of that commitment, NYU Langone continuously strives to enhance the accessibility of its student housing, including by reviewing and updating its housing options as necessary to ensure that they comply with NYU Langone’s obligations and meet the needs of its students with disabilities.

NYU Langone is currently engaged in a multi-year project designed to assess and increase the accessibility of its student housing, with the goal of ensuring that students with disabilities are provided with a full and equal opportunity to benefit from these housing services in the most integrated setting appropriate to the needs of the individuals.

As part of this project, NYU Langone is in the process of preparing a comprehensive plan to improve access to student housing for individuals with disabilities (the “Physical Access Plan”). The Physical Access Plan will provide a framework and timetables for enhancing the accessibility of student housing. The Physical Access Plan is designed to ensure that NYU Langone has a sufficient number of housing units accessible to students with disabilities and that these units are appropriately dispersed throughout NYU Langone’s New York City campus, and that the buildings housing students with disabilities have certain accessible features, such as accessible entrances, restrooms, and common areas.

Comments and Suggestions

A working draft of our Physical Access Plan is now available for review and comment by the NYU Langone community. The draft Physical Access Plan is preliminary and subject to change, including based on comments from members of the community. The draft plan may also change if it is later determined that certain elements in the plan are not workable or are determined to be insufficient to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

NYU Langone invites and strongly encourages comments and suggestions on the proposed Physical Access Plan. All written comments received will be considered before these plans are finalized. The plans are available for comment from the NYU Langone community beginning March 22, 2024, and through April 21, 2024. Of course, even after the Physical Access Plans are finalized and implemented, NYU Langone will continue to update and improve them as appropriate.
