Teaching Assistant, Department of Medicine
My journey into medicine was shaped by my experiences growing up in Nigeria, where access to healthcare was limited. I witnessed firsthand the negative impact of folk medicine on people’s health, which sparked my desire to become a physician. I want to help people heal and contribute to the advancement of medicine which led me to pursue a focus in cardiovascular research.
My current research interests lie in cardiovascular disease prevention, investigating the role of lipoproteins in cardiovascular health. Right now, I’m focusing on understanding residual cardiovascular risk in people with diabetes and inflammatory conditions. My goal is to improve how we best stratify cardiovascular risk in patients and ultimately enhance outcomes for those at highest risk for cardiovascular disease.
So far, my research has led to some exciting opportunities. I’ve been invited to present my preliminary results at major conferences, such as the American Heart Association’s Vascular Discovery meeting and the Gordon Research Conference on Lipoprotein Metabolism. One of our recent publications, "Burden of Cardiometabolic Risk Factors and Vascular Health," was published in the American Heart Journal in January 2024. In addition, several manuscripts are currently under review.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to dive deeper into research that will help identify individuals who might benefit from specific cardiovascular therapeutics. My goal is to continue refining our understanding of cardiovascular risk factors and ultimately contribute to more personalized and effective treatment strategies for those at risk.
