poetry, memoir, liminal states, medical education, medical humanities

I founded the Literature, Arts, and Medicine Database in 1993, a web resource for teaching and scholarship in Medical Humanities. My research interests are in disability studies, cultural studies, illness narratives, and the work of physician writers. I am a contributing editor of the journal, Literature and Medicine and on the advisory board of the Bellevue Literary Review, for which I also review poetry.

These focus areas and their associated publications are derived from medical subject headings from PubMed.
