Adjunct Instructor, Department of Medicine
My research focuses on assessing Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in patients with kidney stones. The goal of this work is to understand the determinants of HRQoL and incorporate these assessments into clinical care.
My efforts involve utilizing existing disease- and non-disease-specific instruments while also developing patient-reported outcomes (PROs).
A significant area of my research is the assessment of HRQoL in cases of rare kidney stones. In this aspect, I have collaborated with the Mayo Clinic and the University Hospital on the Island as part of the Rare Kidney Stone Consortium, specifically on conditions such as Primary Hyperoxaluria, Cystinuria, Dent Disease, and APRT deficiency. This collaboration has included the creation of disease registries, subsequent studies, and the longitudinal assessment of HRQoL. Our partnerships also involve patient advocacy organizations like the Oxalosis and Hyperoxaluria Foundation and the International Cystinuria Foundation.
Additionally, as an adjunct instructor, I train nephrology fellows in clinical research and assist junior faculty members in establishing their research programs.
