I am a surgeon aiming to make healthcare more effective and affordable through research and policy. I study high-cost care, such as surgery and weight management, to identify ways to improve outcomes and value for patients and the healthcare system.
I've previously led multiple studies evaluating “surprise” out-of-network billing, out-of-pocket cost-sharing, and healthcare consolidation. These have been published in journals including NEJM, JAMA, and Health Affairs, and cited by outlets including the New York Times, USA Today, and CNBC.
My current research evaluates the outcomes and affordability of bariatric surgery and pharmacotherapy for obesity. This is supported by the NYU Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s KL2 Scholars Program.
My clinical interests include bariatric surgery, benign foregut surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, and biliary disease, via laparoscopic, robotic, open, and endoscopic approaches.
