In the area of research, Dr. Sullivan has focused on the characterization of early-emerging behavioral features of autism with the goal of understanding core deficits and evaluating interventions to prevent or attenuate the expression of symptoms. She has examined novel measures of speech production and its relationship to aspects of language ability in toddlers with autism, as well as studied outcomes from the first randomized, controlled trial of a behavioral intervention for toddlers with autism using the Early Start Denver Model. Dr. Sullivan is also interested in strategies for promoting more effective clinical trials of pharmacotherapeutics to address core symptoms of autism and identifying interventions to promote quality of life and successful life transitions in young adults with ASD.
