Mary E. Northridge, PhD, MPH is the Director of Dental Research for five NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Programs, a Research Associate Professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and an Associated Faculty Member at the NYU School of Global Public Health in New York City, NY. Since 2015 she has served as the inaugural Editor Emerita of the American Journal of Public Health. Dr. Northridge has enduring interests in healthy aging and the social determinants of health, and a current focus in developing integrated adolescent health models and leveraging community-based participatory research and implementation science to promote health equity. Moreover, she acts as mentor to health leaders, faculty members, dental residents, and undergraduate and graduate students in writing for peer-reviewed publication, designing and evaluating projects, and submitting grants to agencies, organizations, and foundations. Dr. Northridge earned a BA in chemistry with a specialty in biochemistry at the University of Virginia, an MPH in environmental health at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey / Rutgers University, and a PhD in epidemiology at Columbia University. Upon the completion of a post-doctoral fellowship in cancer epidemiology at the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute of Rutgers University, she continued her academic career at the Harlem Health Promotion Center at Columbia University / Harlem Hospital Center, where her research and practice projects addressed the elimination of social disparities in health for more than two decades. She currently serves as the PD/PI of the Dental Faculty Loan Repayment Program (HRSA grant # D87HP46111), the Co-PD/PI of the Postdoctoral Training in General, Pediatric and Public Health Dentistry and Dental Hygiene (HRSA grant # D88HP37549), and the Co-PD/PI of the Community Based Dental Partnership (HRSA grant # H65HA30784). Dr. Northridge is the author of over 280 scientific papers and the co-editor of three volumes.
