My recent basic science research, conducted in collaboration with Jeffrey S. Berger, M.D., has centered on the study of platelet hyper-reactivity and its association with complex thrombotic disorders of the cardiovascular system. The laboratory is investigating methodologies to best predict patients at risk for the development of this type thrombotic disorder as well as platelet proteomics and the involvement of miRNAs in this disorder.
Additionally, in my capacity as Manager of the Special Coagulation Laboratory at Tisch Hospital I conduct clinical laboratory research. My particular areas of interest are improving and simplifying the identification of hemoglobinopathies and thalassemias using HPLC technology and the development of more accurate algorithms for the detection of lupus anticoagulants which are associated with acquired thrombophilia.
