Renata E. Howland

Renata E. Howland, MPH, PhD

Assistant Professor, Department of Population Health

Summary

My research focuses on understanding how programs and policies affect maternal and child health, particularly among low-income families. Starting in 2018, I joined the Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL), a joint initiative of NYU Langone’s Department of Population Health and NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, which conducts research and evaluations to support the New York State Medicaid program. I am interested in leveraging administrative datasets, like Medicaid, to design rigorous studies that move research into practice. My interests are grounded in my experience in community, government and academic settings in New York City. Prior to coming to NYU, I worked in the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. I received my MPH and PhD in Epidemiology from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
