Summary

I am an epidemiological, behavioral, and implementation scientist specializing in physical activity assessment and promotion in the context of adult obesity research. My work explores how multilevel factors—from individual to environmental—shape health behaviors and impact obesity-related conditions. I am particularly interested in understanding how mental health plays a role in these associations, especially among people facing high levels of stress and adversity. My research also aims to reduce chronic disease risk and enhance quality of life by identifying effective ways to implement evidence-based strategies, particularly in populations experiencing health disparities.

I draw upon a broad methodological skillset in my research, including the use of geographic information systems and electronic health record data, survey research, device-based behavioral assessment, and qualitative and mixed methods, with a commitment to community-engaged approaches.

Recently, my research team learned from Brooklyn residents how local greenspaces can support physical activity, exploring the emotions that nature settings can evoke during recreation. We also explored the challenges and opportunities for implementing nature-based physical activity programs in partnership with Family Health Centers at NYU Langone. My epidemiological research largely focuses on examining natural and built environmental determinants of physical activity, obesity, and type 2 diabetes outcomes. I have also collaborated with colleagues on multiple clinical trials, focusing on practical strategies for improving patients’ weight management, sleep, and quality of life.

My career goal is to provide an evidence base of rigorous measurement and evaluation of ecologically informed physical activity interventions to reduce chronic disease risk factors, and to work with high-risk populations to translate effective strategies to their communities.
