Associate Professor, Department of Medicine
My research journey has been dedicated to advancing the fields of clinical reasoning, diagnostic error, artificial intelligence (AI)/informatics, and medical education. My dedication to the field of clinical reasoning and diagnostic error is evident in my multifaceted contributions. I have played integral roles in leading organizations, such as The Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine, where I recently served as Chair of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee and as a National Academy of Medicine Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence. In addition to my leadership roles, my research endeavors have been supported by grant funding, allowing me to drive innovations in healthcare. A recent project, funded by NBME Stemmler fund focuses on the use of artificial intelligence for assessment of clinical reasoning documentation. My scholarly contributions extend to peer-reviewed publications and invited lectures, where I have shared my insights with colleagues and learners alike. Notable publications include articles in prestigious journals like Medical Teacher, Diagnosis, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Academic Medicine, and more. Through these publications and lectures, I aim to disseminate knowledge, foster discussion, and inspire progress in clinical reasoning and diagnostic error reduction. My current work focuses on building an AI-based diagnostic performance feedback system for internal medicine residents.
