Assistant Professor, Department of Population Health
For example, I developed a system that identifies hospitalized patients at high risk of death and alerts their physicians to support earlier conversations around end-of-life care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I led the implementation of a simple and interpretable risk model within the Epic EHR, enabling frontline clinicians to assess patient risk more effectively, and evaluated its impact in a randomized controlled trial.
My recent work has focused on auditing vendor-supplied algorithms for fairness and developing strategies to address bias while maximizing value. In addition, I am involved in translating emerging generative AI tools into practical systems that can support everyday clinical tasks and improve patient understanding.
Overall, I’m motivated by the potential for data-driven methods to provide real, measurable value in healthcare—and by the challenge of turning promising models into tools that clinicians trust and use.
