Kirsch Lab

We study the mechanisms regulating the differentiation events of precursor cells into mature skeletal tissue cells.

The Kirsch Lab at NYU Langone studies novel mechanisms involved in the regulation of cartilage homeostasis, maintenance, and pathology, with the ultimate goal to define novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of osteoarthritis. In addition, we are interested in how cells and the environment in the joint communicate to maintain organ health and how such communication networks are altered in joint diseases or injuries.

We focus on the following broad research focus areas:

  • cartilage and bone biology
  • musculoskeletal tissue injury, repair, and regeneration
  • matrix biology
  • biology of extracellular vesicles in health and disease
  • osteoarthritis

The Kirsch Lab is located in the Bioengineering Institute at 433 First Avenue in Manhattan. The modern laboratory space in the Bioengineering Institute is being shared between the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering to foster a collaborative environment for the discovery of novel therapeutic strategies for musculoskeletal tissue repair and regeneration.
