Microbiology PhD Training Program
The Microbiology PhD Training Program at NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences prepares PhD candidates for careers in the field of microbiology and infectious diseases.
As a PhD candidate, you participate in hands-on work in all aspects of microbiology. These include microbiome biology; mechanisms of microbial and parasitic pathogenicity and host resistance to infectious agents; the molecular, cellular, and immunological phenomena associated with microbial colonization and infection; and the genetics of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbes.
Classwork emphasizes the molecular aspects of pathogenesis. Course subjects include the following:
- bacterial pathogenesis
- cell and molecular biology
- immunology
- macromolecular mechanisms
- medical microbiology
- parasitology
- virology
