PBM-LEF Study: The Impact of Photobiomodulation (PBM) on Biomarkers of Radiation Lymphedema and Fibrosis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients: A Pilot Study
This study is testing if LED light therapy, called photobiomodulation (PBM), can help reduce tissue swelling and scarring in the neck area for head and neck cancer (HNC) patients who developed lymphedema and fibrosis (LEF) after radiation treatment. Patients who have had radiation on both sides of their neck will join the study, with treatment lasting five weeks. Patients will be randomly assigned to either real PBM or a fake treatment, and researchers will measure neck tissue thickness before and after treatment to see if there’s improvement. Other things being tracked include whether patients can complete most of the sessions, changes in pain and comfort levels, quality of life, swallowing ability, and inflammation. Safety will be monitored by checking for any health problems throughout the study.
