Digital Phenotyping: A Novel Method to Predict Proximal Suicide Risk in Youth
The goal of this study is to use keyboard metadata, a method of collecting data from written communications entered on iPhones, in addition to traditional assessments, to characterize the digital phenotype of suicide risk in adolescents. Adolescents with Bipolar Disorder or Major Depressive Disorder will download the BiAffect app from the App Store. During the 3-month period of the study, participants and their caregivers will complete questionnaires to assess other risk factors that are associated with suicide. Participants will also be prompted by the app to report on mood and suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB), as well as complete active tasks twice a week. Participants will also be interviewed by phone monthly to assess the presence and timing of STB. Caregivers will be interviewed and complete questionnaires at baseline for another perspective on the presence and timing of STB in the adolescent participants.

DISCOVERY of Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes in Youth Study
Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a medical condition in which high blood sugars develop in the body. The DISCOVERY study team is doing this study to learn about things that put youth at risk for early onset of T2D. This study will help us develop future studies on how to prevent and treat youth-onset T2D. The DISCOVERY study will enroll and follow a large group of youth (about 3,600) at higher than average risk of developing T2D. They will be closely followed with measures that may predict the development of T2D as they go through puberty.
