Methotrexate and Cholesterol Transport Regulation: Impact of Treatment Regimen in Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome Cardiovascular Inflammation
Cardiovascular Inflammation Reduction Trial (CIRT) sub-study will examine those who have had a heart attack or have documented multi-vessel disease and have either type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome (combination of medical disorders). The sub-study is designed to assess the impact of LD MTX (low dose methotrexate) on cholesterol in patients who have suffered a heart attack or who have documented multi-vessel disease. Blood samples from patients who are not taking LD MTX will be compared to samples from patients who are taking LD MTX. This comparsion is necessary to investigate the impact of LD MTX on cholesterol. Research has shown that change in cholesterol transport can affect the risks of life-threatening heart disorders. This sub-study provides an opportunity to evaluate whether the LD MTX is effective and should be continued.
Microbial and host biomarkers for endotyping critically ill patients
The purpose of this study is to identify biological markers associated with lung diseases. This study will also help us understand possible mechanisms present in different lung diseases. If you decide to participate in this study, we will use blood, airway and stool samples collected as part of your routine care to develop novel markers that can predict clinical outcomes.
Microbial and human biomarkers of thoracic disease after lung transplantation
The purpose of this study is to identify biological markers associated with lung inflammation and immune responsiveness in lung transplantation. The study will prospectively collect airway and blood samples on 200 subjects undergoing lung transplantation. The research staff will evaluate airway microbial signatures associated with local (lower airway) and systemic (blood) immune tone. This study may lead to a better understanding of post-transplant (after transplant) outcomes.
MICROBiome Involvement in Outcomes of Methotrexate Efficacy-RA
This is a prospective, observational, proof-of-principle study looking at the effects of the gut microbiome on the metabolism and response to methotrexate treatment and related medications. Drug-naïve RA patients who will be receiving MTX as part of their standard - of-care treatment plan and who have active disease and have not received other diseasemodifying therapies (as defined by the inclusion/exclusion criteria) will be enrolled. If during the course of the study, the subject is no longer receiving MTX as part of their standard of care treatment, the subject will still complete the remainder of the study visits to understand variations in microbiome after discontinuation of MTXThe purpose of this research is to study the changes in the human microbe (bacteria in your gut/intestines) in response to methotrexate (MTX) medication.
