NYU Langone Health offers a one-year postgraduate year 2 (PGY-2) Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency program with an intensive and individualized experience in the inpatient setting. The resident will receive the training necessary to develop clinical expertise in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy and antimicrobial stewardship.

The core rotations in adult infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, and clinical microbiology laboratory allow the resident to advance their knowledge of different aspects of infectious diseases and develop clinical skills. Additional rotations can include transplant infectious diseases, hematology–oncology infectious diseases, pediatric infectious diseases consult, and adult outpatient infectious diseases clinic.

Longitudinal involvement with the Antimicrobial Subcommittee of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and completion of a research project are required. As a resident in our program, you have a broad range of clinical and research opportunities and the flexibility to integrate your professional goals.

Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Curriculum

The PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency curriculum consists of the following requirements.

Our program provides you with a longitudinal rotation experience in the Antimicrobial Subcommittee throughout the residency year and clinical weekend coverage on rotating weekends.

Longitudinal Pharmacy Practice Experiences

The experience required for longitudinal pharmacy practice are:

• A scholarly research project is required. Project completion and a final written manuscript are required for graduation from the program.
• Medication use evaluation (MUE) project is required and the results are to be presented at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.
• BLS and ACLS training are required for participating in MRTs/Airway Codes.
• Weekend Clinical Program on site every third weekend to provide coverage for Antimicrobial Stewardship (ASP) and PGY1 emergency back-up for Code/RRT and Stroke pagers from 8AM till 4PM on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
• Antimicrobial Stewardship Longitudinal Year Long Learning Experience to gain stewardship knowledge and skills.
• Residents will interact with Doctor of Pharmacy students from various institutions.
• Residents will have the opportunity to develop teaching skills by providing in-service presentations and participating in a Teaching Certificate Program (optional).

Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Research Requirements

As a requirement of the residency program, residents must complete a scholarly research project in infectious diseases. We encourage you to choose a topic of interest to you that contributes to the advancement of infectious diseases clinical practice.

You must also complete a review article or a patient case report for publication and participate in the continuing education efforts of our program.

Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Longitudinal Experiences

Your longitudinal responsibilities include the following:

• a scholarly research project, the results of which will be presented at a regional pharmacy conference and submitted to a national or international infectious disease meeting
• clinical in-house coverage on rotating weekends
• participation in antimicrobial medication use evaluation projects
• participation in the Infection Control and Prevention Committee

Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Stipend and Benefits

Residents receive a stipend of $62,400, as well as comprehensive health insurance, 14 vacation days, and 7 professional meeting days.

Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Eligibility Requirements

Applicants to our Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency program must possess a PharmD degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)–accredited college or school of pharmacy. You must also have completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and be licensed or eligible for licensure in New York state.

Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Application Process

We offer one PGY2 position in infectious diseases pharmacy per year. You must apply through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) and participate in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program. The resident matching program code is 692055.

Applicants must submit the following application materials through PhORCAS by January 5:

• all official college transcripts
• your CV
• three references submitted through the reference form in PhORCAS
• a letter of intent that describes your goals and interests, motivation for completing a PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency, and why you want to be a part of NYU Langone

An interview, if requested, is also required and will include a case presentation.

The start date for the program is July 1.
