Mechanisms and Enhancement of Learning During Sleep
The purpose of this study is to understand how sleep affects learning and memory. We are looking to enroll patients with epilepsy. Often, patients with epilepsy have memory difficulty. By understanding how sleep supports learning, investigators may be able to develop methods to improve sleep and therefore memory function. This study will compare learning before a period of sleep and to learning after a period of sleep.
Mechanisms of Peripheral Vascular Disease
The purpose of the research is to study human tissue samples, medical history and outcomes to understand more about the biology, causes, prevention and therapy of patients with documented peripheral arterial (PAD) disease secondary to atherosclerosis. The study will continue for approximately 10 years so the researchers may collect adequate data and tissue on patients undergoing amputations caused by PAD. There are no testing or visits that will be done for research purposes.
Mechanisms of sleep deficiency and effects on brain injury and neurocognitive functions among older blacks
The purpose of this study is to assess the determinants of Sleep Deficiency and delineate their potential role in explaining observed disparities in the brain health of older blacks, indexed by novel AD brain biomarkers and examinations of cognitive impairment in a multicultural community sample. Eligible participants include community-dwelling older adults aged 55-75 years older with and without memory complaints. Study participants will receive a comprehensive health screening with ambulatory recording devices, including, state-of-the-science geospatial analytics, and testing of cognition.
Mechanistic basis for impaired B cell depletion after anti-CD20 treatment of African American with neuro-inflammatory disorders
The purpose of this research is to better understand why African Americans with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis optica (NMO), or other neuroinflammatory disorders, have fast B-cell repopulation after receiving anti-CD20 therapies such as Rituximab and Ocrelizumab. The researchers plan to collect up to 30.5 mL (2.1 tbsp) of blood sample for each subject at a single time-point during the bi-annual clinic visit that is immediately prior to scheduled aCD20 infusion. For each subject, per our standard of care the researchers plan to collect routine clinical studies as well as the research labs. Blood samples will be analyzed at NYU specialty laboratories according to the appropriate workflow as specified in the Lab Manual.
