New Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus (NORSE)
The purpose of this study is to establish a research bank of data and biospecimens for future research on new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE). Status epilepticus is when seizures occur one after another without stopping. The term “refractory” is used to describe your condition because your status epilepticus did not get any better with medicine, making it hard to treat. In this case, the condition is called “new onset refractory status epilepticus” (NORSE). The tissue samples, biological specimen(s) and data collected in this bank will be used by researchers to help understand the cause of new-onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE), to identify the key determinants of outcome and to determine the best management strategy to treat patients that present with new-onset refractory status epilepticus.
