NYU Managing Epilepsy Well (MEW) Study: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Telephone-Based Support for People with Epilepsy
The purpose of this research study is to test two telephone-based programs for adults with epilepsy to see whether they improve mood, quality of life and seizures. This study is a randomized study. This means, like flipping a coin, participants will be assigned to one of two treatment groups. One program is UPLIFT (Using Practice and Learning to Increase Favorable Thoughts), a group-based program that teaches people with epilepsy mood self-management skills. The other program is BOOST (Bringing Out Our Strength Together), a group-based support program for people with epilepsy. There are no special requirements or criteria to be in either group. Participants will have a 50% chance of being in either group.
NYU Pediatric Diabetes Database and Biobank
We are looking for participants with a diagnosis of diabetes or with a brother or sister with diabetes. The purpose of this study is to collect information from children and adolescents with diabetes and possible ways to stop diabetes from developing.
NYU Validation of a Food Frequency Questionnaire in Children and Adolescents with Diabetes
The purpose of this study is to create and “validate” an improved questionnaire about food intake in children with diabetes that also looks at exposure to dietary contaminants. Validate means that we want to check that it is correct. In order to test this, we will need to compare the answers on the questionnaire to “24 hour memories or recalls of food eaten” that will be obtained during telephone calls. This study is looking to enroll children with diabetes and their parents. You will be asked to participate in two very brief phone calls to discuss what you (or your child) has eaten in the past 24 hours, and then you will be asked to fill out the questionnaire at your (or your child’s) next clinical visit with the doctor. This means you will be in the study for about 3 months.
