Joshua Chodosh, MD, MSHS

Administrative Core and Emergency Care Redesign (ECR) Lead

Joshua Chodosh, MD, MSHS, (Contact PI), is a practicing geriatrician, NIH-funded health services researcher and the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Care at NYU Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSoM). Dr. Chodosh is also the Director of the Freedman Research Center on Aging, Technology, and Cognitive Health (CATCH), a research center with a primary focus on developing and testing new systems of care for older patients with cognitive impairment and functional disabilities and studying supportive strategies for family caregivers. Dr. Chodosh co-leads the CDC BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence on Early Detection of Dementia, and his most recent research focuses on communication strategies between persons living with dementia, their care partners and medical providers in what are known as “triadic encounters.” He has developed, implemented, and studied models of care using clinical decision support tools, structural redesign and novel approaches to engage patients and their caregivers. Dr. Chodosh also leads a national clinical implementation trial initiated in multiple emergency departments across the United States to test a new strategy of care for people who present with hearing loss.

Abraham A. Brody, PhD, RN

Nurse-led Telephonic Care (NLTC) Lead

Abraham (Ab) Brody, PhD, RN (PI), is the Mathy Mezey Professor of Geriatric Nursing and Medicine, Assistant Dean for Transformational Excellence in Aging at New York University, and an accomplished researcher in the fields of geriatrics and palliative care. Dr. Brody’s research focuses on how to improve quality of care and quality of life for individuals with serious illness in the community. He specifically focuses on impacting the care of persons living with dementia and their care partners through real-world implementation of clinical programs. He currently serves as the principal investigator of the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory dedicated to advancing pragmatic trials in dementia care nationally, and the ASCENT Consortium, dedicated to the nation advancement of palliative and hospice care research. He is also a lead investigator and co-investigator on a number of NIA funded pragmatic trials of Aliviado Dementia Care as well as multiple federally funded clinical trials and implementation grants and other pragmatic trials and health services research projects with Medicare claims data. Dr. Brody practices clinically on the geriatric and palliative care consult services at NYU Langone Health.

Corita Grudzen, MD, MSHS

Implementation Core Lead

Dr. Corita Grudzen MD, MSHS, is a practicing emergency physician and the Fern Grayer Chair in Oncology Care and Patient Experience. The overarching focus of her work is prioritizing cancer care innovation and care delivery. Dr. Grudzen serves as head of the newly created Division of Supportive and Acute Care Services (SAS) and Director of the Center for Cancer Care Innovation at Memorial Sloan Kettering. SAS unites four services that concern the evaluation and management of acutely ill patients and the non-oncologic medical management before, during, and after a diagnosis of cancer: emergency care; hospital medicine; rapid diagnosis, early detection, and risk reduction; and supportive care.

Manish N. Shah, MD, MPH

Community Paramedic-led Transitions Intervention (CPTI) Lead

Manish N. Shah, MD, MPH, is a practicing emergency department physician and Chair of the Berbee Walsh Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Shah holds the titles of Professor of Emergency Medicine, Population Health Sciences, and Geriatrics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a nationally recognized geriatric emergency medicine researcher with 20 years of continuous funding through which he has worked to develop and test interventions to improve the emergency care of seriously ill older adults, particularly those with AD/ADRD. Dr. Shah performed the first trials of high-intensity telemedicine in senior living communities (R01), finding significant decreases in ED use, particularly among persons living with dementia. Dr. Shah also performed the first clinical trial to test a specific application of community paramedicine for care transitions, finding benefits particularly for persons living with dementia.

Keith S. Goldfeld, DrPH, MS, MPA, MURP

Statistical Analysis Core Lead

Keith Goldfeld, DrPH, MS, MPA, MURP is an Associate Professor in the Division of Biostatistics of the Department of Population Health at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Goldfeld has a broad background in statistical analysis, with expertise in causal inference, observational data analysis, health services research, cluster-randomized trials, designing and analyzing complex embedded pragmatic clinical trials, and applying Bayesian statistics to analysis of data from multi-site trials.
