CEDER Impact
The National CEDER’s impact is driven by evidence, collaboration, and national engagement to advance type 2 diabetes (T2D) community-engaged research. Our impact evaluation examines how the Center and its Partnership Hub strengthen stakeholder and community engagement; identifies best practices that can be shared or tailored to local needs; and guides how we support researchers and community groups in improving their projects. We are assessing this impact through post-service evaluations, biannual client surveys, key informant interviews, and a Partnership Hub evaluation. The findings are shared at national and community-focused conferences and events, as well as through peer-reviewed publications, newsletters, social media, and other dissemination channels. Through these efforts, we aim to expand awareness of our work, strengthen and foster cross-sector connections and dialogue, and reinforce the Center’s role in advancing impactful, community-driven diabetes research.
Reports
Reports from the National CEDER provide insight into both the Center’s impact and the broader needs of the T2D research community. Created by the CEDER team in collaboration with Partnership Hub members and other partners, these reports are intended for researchers, community partners, funders, and policymakers seeking to strengthen community-centered T2D research, inform capacity-building efforts, and advance effective, collaborative solutions.
CEDER Needs & Assets Assessment Report
During the first year, CEDER conducted a nationwide needs and assets assessment (NAA) of representatives from community-based organizations, clinicians providing care for patients with diabetes, academic researchers, and others to identify and better understand what services, support, and expertise are needed to strengthen partnerships in T2D research and programs. These groups provided combined expertise that directly informs CEDER’s ability to broaden and strengthen partnerships that advance the Center’s mission.
The survey gathered input from 190 respondents in the United States working in T2D programs and research from June to November 2024. Key challenges identified include areas for support, such as securing grant funding, program evaluation and study design, and participant recruitment. Interest in training and resources aligned with these needs, with all groups prioritizing grant-funding assistance.
CEDER has tailored its offerings — including expert consultations, collaborative studio sessions, webinars, and an expanding resource hub — to address these needs. By fostering cross-sector partnerships and providing researchers and community partners with practical tools and training, CEDER is advancing innovative, culturally responsive approaches designed to reduce disparities and improve outcomes in communities most affected by diabetes.

Presentations
CEDER has actively showcased its work and strengthened national visibility through robust participation at major scientific and community-focused conferences.
2025
In 2025, the CEDER team presented multiple posters at the 85th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association, highlighting findings from the Needs & Assets Assessment, pilot service model, and partnership panel discussions, and actively engaged with attendees at the exhibit table. Team members and partners also presented at the national Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) and Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science (IAPHS) Conferences about co-designing evaluation frameworks and assessing needs and expertise in community-engaged diabetes research.
Additionally, CEDER’s presence at events like the Bronx Diabetes Action Summit and Visión y Compromiso’s Annual Conference has fostered dialogue with community leaders and practitioners, helping bridge research and real-world engagement while expanding awareness of CEDER’s services.
