Bellevue/NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic Physicians & Staff

The Bellevue/NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic, part of NYU Langone, brings together occupational health, medical, and population health expertise to diagnose, treat, and prevent occupational illnesses in New York City’s diverse working population.

Our staff includes three physicians who specialize in occupational, pulmonary, and internal medicine. We also have an industrial hygienist, a nurse case manager, two occupational health specialists, and three support staff.

Clinic Physicians and Staff

George Friedman-Jimenez, MD, Director

Dr. Friedman-Jimenez, MD, DrPH, is an occupational medicine physician and epidemiologist and serves as director of the Bellevue/NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic. An assistant professor in the Departments of Population Health and Medicine, his primary focus is on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of work-related illnesses. Denise J. Harrison, MD, Associate Medical Director

Dr. Harrison serves as medical director of the World Trade Center Health Program Clinical Center of Excellence and associate medical director of the Bellevue/NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, primarily focusing on the research, prevention, diagnoses, and treatment of environmental and occupational lung disease. Susan Richman, MD, MSc, Attending Physician

Dr. Richman is board certified in internal medicine and occupational medicine, and continues her 25-year interest in helping patients address medical issues caused by work, including musculoskeletal conditions like tendinitis of the hands, forearms, and elbows, and carpal tunnel syndrome. A clinical instructor in the Department of Medicine, she has particular expertise in helping people return to work after medical absences and, in general, helping people retain their jobs despite having workplace medical issues. Honghong Luo, PhD, MS, CIH, Industrial Hygienist and Assistant Director

Dr. Luo runs the Bellevue/NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic industrial hygiene program. She conducts work environment exposure assessments and toxicological literature reviews, and provides recommendations for hazard control and intervention in workplaces.

Andrea Thompson, MA, RN, Nurse Case Manager

Ms. Thompson coordinates patient care in the Bellevue/NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic and is also a nurse case manager at the World Trade Center Health Program Clinical Center of Excellence.

Acran Salmen-Navarro, MD, MSc, Program Coordinator and Ergonomist

Dr. Salmen-Navarro is trained as an occupational medicine physician and in ergonomics. He focuses on work-related musculoskeletal disorders preventive programs and ergonomics programs for the clinic, including an ergonomics simulation laboratory to facilitate a safe return to work for clinic patients. Dr. Salmen-Navarro also plays a key administrative role in developing new clinical and research projects, and outreach to different New York City populations, community organizations, unions, businesses, and city agencies.

Latoya Skerrette, MPH, Occupational Health Specialist and Research Coordinator

Ms. Skerrette manages our day-to-day clinic and office operations, as well as budgeting and outreach activities, acting as liaison between the clinic and NYU Grossman School of Medicine. In addition to drafting and submitting reports to the New York State Department of Health Clinic Network, she helps develop, implement, and evaluate new clinic protocols, as well as coordinate new and ongoing clinical projects such as group occupational medicine evaluations.
