City Health Dashboard and Congressional District Health Dashboard
The City Health Dashboard (CHDB) and Congressional District Health Dashboard (CDHD) (“the Dashboards”) are websites with national coverage that assist communities, policymakers, and advocates across the U.S. leverage the power of data to improve health and equity. Developed and maintained by a team based in the Division of Epidemiology, the Dashboards are supported by extramural funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Together, the Dashboards provide rigorous, non-partisan data on health and the conditions that affect health hosted on free, easy-to-use, and interactive websites. Launched in 2018, the City Health Dashboard includes city and census tract-level data on over 40 metrics for 1,100+ U.S. cities. The Congressional District Health Dashboard, launched in 2023, offers 35+ metrics for all 435 congressional districts, 50 states, and Washington, DC. The Dashboards provide a range of metrics that span five broad domains: Health Outcomes, Social and Economic Factors, Health Behaviors, Physical Environment, and Clinical Care.
The Dashboards team regularly updates its two data platforms with new metrics, new features, and with the most recent year of data available. The addition of new metrics to the Dashboards involves a thorough investigation to determine if the metric is statistically rigorous, relevant to the policy landscape, and actionable at the municipal or district level. The data for both websites are also freely available for download via either .csv files or an API to support user needs.
