Black & Latino/a/e Students’ Association

The Black and Latino/a/e Students’ Association (BALSA) is dedicated to the academic success and advancement of students at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. BALSA events celebrate African American and Latino/a/e heritage, while raising awareness of the complex issues that affect these communities. The organization is dedicated to the betterment of these communities via research and outreach projects that improve the health and wellbeing of populations with limited access to healthcare.

BALSA welcomes all students interested in contributing to the work of the association to join its community and NYU Grossman School of Medicine. BALSA members form a peer-support network for incoming students, and its network of house staff and faculty provides students with mentoring and support.

At NYU Grossman School of Medicine, BALSA is the umbrella organization for two other nationally recognized organizations, the Student National Medical Association and the Latino Medical Student Association.
