Health And… Data Science and Public Action Conference

Society — and the health sector in particular— is increasingly rich in big data, with more powerful computational and analytic tools at hand than ever before. But will these capabilities actually lead to improved population health and health equity? The “Health And… Data Science and Public Action” conference, hosted by the Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health on May 21, 2018, will explore how researchers, the health sector, and communities can innovate in using data to improve health and well-being — and in putting data into citizen hands to catalyze action.

Bringing together leading innovators in multiple sectors, the conference will include presentations and discussion about:

  • Novel data solutions for improving population health, healthcare delivery, and public engagement
  • How to use data to advance policy through cross-sectoral collaboration
  • How coalitions can present data in compelling ways to inspire action, such as visualization and story-telling

Speakers include:

  • Nate Silver, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, FiveThirtyEight
  • Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, former Acting Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Professor of Medicine, UT Austin Dell Medical School

The Health And... Conference Series

With the goal of translating research into action to improve urban population health, the “Health And…” Conference series brings together leading investigators, policymakers, practitioners, and community leaders who work at the intersection of health and its many determinants. Throughout the day, we highlight the latest findings, identify front-line innovations, develop pressing questions to investigate, and define promising policies and partnerships in order to advance population health and health equity.

We have held two Health And.. conferences, Health And...Place, Education, Healthcare in 2016 and Health And… Racial Equity and Urban Well-Being in 2017.
