Implementing an effective Diabetes intervEntion Among Low-income immigrants (IDEAL Study)
Dr. Lu Hu and her research team at NYU Langone Health are conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of a culturally and linguistically tailored diabetes program designed specifically for Chinese Americans. This program aims to help participants manage their diabetes and prevent related complications. The goal of this research study is to determine whether our diabetes education program can effectively lower blood sugar levels in Chinese immigrants with type 2 diabetes Study Details: Duration: Approximately 1 year Surveys: Baseline, 6-months, 12-months Participation: Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: Group 1: Receives brief mHealth diabetes education videos weekly for 24 weeks. Group 2: Receives the same weekly mHealth videos plus bi-weekly support calls from a trained, bilingual community health worker to assist with goal setting. Group 3: Control group: continues with usual care but will receive the brief mHealth diabetes education videos at the end of the study.
IMPROVING MUSIC PERCEPTION IN COCHLEAR IMPLANTS
In this multi-site across-subject study, participants will be evaluated with custom written software to test pitch discrimination, the ability to perceive changes in melodic intervals, and pitch sound quality. Testing will occur in a soundbooth or quiet environment with the stimuli being presented through a direct audio input (DAI) cable connected to the cochlear implant and an insert earphone to the AH ear. No changes will be made to a cochlear implant user’s device or settings. Individuals will listen to various tones, complex sounds or melodies and make judgements based on what they perceive. These judgements will be recorded using a custom interface on a touch screen computer, or with a computer mouse.
