Vaccine Center Community Events

NYU Langone’s Vaccine Center is passionate about engaging with communities in New York City and beyond. Educational and outreach events provide phenomenal opportunities to discuss important public health topics, such as vaccine hesitancy and diversity in clinical trials, and provide trusted information about diseases of public health importance.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our team was active in the community, assisting in the delivery of up-to-date, accurate information about the pandemic and ongoing vaccine research studies. View our archive of recorded COVID-19 Town Halls to learn more about our outreach.

Descriptions of our recent and upcoming events can be found below.

Harlem Day

August 20, 2023

The Vaccine Center team had an amazing time at Harlem Day, tabling in the sunshine alongside more than 130 local organizations, vendors, and food stalls set up on West 135th Street in northern Manhattan. The team distributed educational materials and Vaccine Center merchandise, and tested the Harlem community’s knowledge of vaccination schedules over the lifetime.

This large community event was the closing day of Harlem Week 2023, the 49th annual celebration of the Harlem community’s diversity and its rich economic, political, and cultural history. We are already looking forward to next year.

Brooklyn Pride Festival

June 10, 2023

The Vaccine Center was a proud sponsor of the 2023 Brooklyn Pride Festival. Our team tested the community’s knowledge of clinical trials and vaccine science, gave out some Vaccine Center merchandise, and discussed clinical studies and research with community members. We are proud to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community!

Mpox Research Roundtable

February 8, 2023

The Mpox Research Roundtable, hosted by helpNYC, was part of an ongoing citywide community engagement effort since summer 2022 to educate the community about mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox, MPV, or MPX). Experts at this event reviewed current data on mpox in New York City, and helpNYC’s research partners spoke about the research they’re doing on mpox.

The Mpox Research Roundtable was created for direct service providers, community leaders, social services, and medical professionals to help engage their clients, program participants, and peers in mpox research and awareness. Invitations were extended to community members as well.
