During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our team was active in the community, assisting in the delivery of up-to-date, accurate information about the pandemic and the on-going vaccine research studies. We collaborated with many community organizations to host virtual town halls and educational events with the general public.

Virtual Town Hall: COVID-19 Vaccines for Children and Families

August 4, 2021

In this town hall, we welcomed families to join a discussion about what to consider when deciding to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Families were encouraged to join with their children and to ask the experts questions. This virtual town hall was hosted by the Vaccine Center, the Community Health Worker Research and Resource Center, the NYU-CUNY Prevention Research Center, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the NYU Community Engagement Alliance Initiative, and Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement Inc. Virtual Town Hall: COVID-19 Vaccines, Safety, and Side Effects

Presented in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, this virtual town hall focused on the COVID-19 vaccines available in New York and New Jersey and answered questions about their safety, effectiveness, and side effects. Experts also answered questions about whether the vaccines are halal and why it’s important to get the vaccine for your health and for your community’s health.

Community Outreach and Food Distribution: Educational Outreach for COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy

 April 23, 2021

In collaboration with The Migrant Kitchen, team members from the Vaccine Center satellite site at Bellevue hosted a (socially distanced) community engagement event where we provided answers to questions relating to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Through this educational outreach effort, attendees discussed COVID-19 vaccines and the impact that the history of clinical research trials has had on present-day hesitancy. Additionally, we distributed 150 hot meals to members of the community, patients, and healthcare workers through The Migrant Kitchen Initiative.

Presented by the Jewish Orthodox Women’s Medical Association (JOWMA), this town hall provided a live forum for healthcare professionals regarding what they need to know about COVID-19 vaccines. Topics included understanding and addressing COVID-19 vaccine safety and side effects for pregnant women, debunking misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines, and vaccine hesitancy in the Orthodox Jewish community.
